Last week I got together with my cousin Kristy (and one of my very first readers :) for a delicious lunch at Louise's Trattoria and some resale shopping on Melrose. After devouring the best salad ever - hello Sonoma Salad (highly recommend) we headed over to some of my personal favs: Wasteland and Crossroads Trading Co. I was able to score this uber-boho multi-colored belt for just $10 bucks (saw a similar one in last month's Lucky for over $100!) and this turquoise BCBG dress for just $16 bucks. I think I've become somewhat of a resale pro - whodathunkit?
But while I have grown accustomed to the patience and thought resale shopping requires, this was Kristy's first time. I could tell it was a bit overwhelming for her - so much to go through just to find a few treasures. She also didn't like the feeling of wearing someone's used clothing. Totally get that. This totally used to be my opinion - that is, until my shopping budget got smaller and smaller! Then one day I made a decision and visited a Crossroads all by my lonesome and decided that I was going to find something that I really loved - even if it took me a few hours. And I did. Remember this post? And the solution to "wearing someone else's clothes" ? A quick trip to the dry cleaner (I also factor in the price of this to the item I buy to see how much it's really going to cost me). At the end of the day, Kristy ended up buying a bunch of super cute things that still had their tags on, so it's a step in the right direction. Can't wait til she's picking through the $1 pile at Jet Rag with me!
What's your opinion? Do you love resale as much as me, or does the thought of wearing someone else's old clothes freak you out?

My friend and I actually talked a bit about this the other day: I think we agree that when it comes to clothing and some accessories (including your belt) we're okay with it. However, when it comes to shoes, we think that's a little gross. I think primarily because of our collective germ phobias, haha. I might even get a little bugged by some clothing because of my mom (I wasn't allowed to share clothes growing up and would be punished big time -- and have -- if she EVER found out) and her whole "you are going to get a flesh eating disease from using someone else's tainted clothes!" So overall, I think I am okay with it but it depends on what and from where.
resale definately doesn't freak me out - you can get some fabulous pieces! love the top!
Resale all the way. I think the search is the most fun part about it.
Also, in reply to your question, I used Photoshop for my banner. Your welcome in advance :)
That belt is going to look great on you. Any ideas on what you'll be wearing it with?
I've been wanting to visit/shop at a resale store for a while. One worry that's holding me back is if my size will be available. Guess the only way to find out is if I make the trip!
whatever gives u a BCBG dress for a mere 16 bucks is good enough for me! :)
i'd be a very sad recessionista without resale.
What lovely finds! I guess it takes some time to get used to the idea of buying used clothes, and also to have the patience to rummage through the racks, but once you get the hang of it, its so much fun plus big savings too.
I am addicted now to resale/thrift shopping. Matter of fact, I can't wait till the morning because there is going to be a half off sale at one tomorrow. I scoped out a London Fog trench that I will get tomorrow!
I also factor in the amount for alterations too, sometimes it's not worth...both most times it is.
