When I came upon this short tank dress on forever21.com, I instantly knew it reminded me of a dress I had seen - and loved, before. After a little research I realized it was a pretty much blatant copy of a Theory dress. Which leads me to my question: do you have a problem with big chains like F 21 copying other collection's pieces? I mean, obviously all lines are "inspired" by the heavy hitters (Prada, Chanel, Gucci, etc.), but not usually to this effect. And while it makes it much more affordable, you can definitely tell the Forever 21 dress lacks the detail and shape of the beautifully made Theory dress.
Theory Alisse DressSo is blatant copying bad? Or does it just make a beautiful product more available to the masses?

Well . . . I have pretty strong feelings about protecting the intellectual property of designers when it comes to unique construction and patterns.
That being said, this is not that heinous an offense. I think since we can't really stop the "theft" of ideas in this fashion market (though designers like Diane von Furstenberg have tried), we should embrace it . . .
I shop at Forever 21 quite a bit and I'm very grateful to be able to pick up designer-looking pieces at super low prices!
